passedgeneraltest

Despite being ill all week ever since I returned from the convention, I still managed to drag myself in to the testing session yesterday and take tests.

I passed my General Class test and now have those privileges!  It should show up in the FCC database in a week or so.  I elected to retain my current call sign since it seems to be fairly well recognized, at least in the weather community.  Passed with 33 out of 35 correct.  I’ve been taking classes for the test over the last month, so I was fairly confident in passing.

I also gave the Extra Class test a shot but only scored about 50%.  In fairness, I had only started studying that the day before.  There was a testing session again later in the afternoon, but even with more studying and practice tests I was only up to 67%, so I decided to put it off until next month.  They have testing sessions every 3rd Saturday.  Next month that also coincides with the Midland, Texas Hamfest, so I may just go to that and take it there.  All assuming that is not a chase day of course.  With another month to study, hopefully I will be Extra Class this time next month!

Might be fall/winter though before I can get around and get some HF gear.  It’s a bit more costly than 2 meter stuff most in the Tech Class normally play with.

I can highly recommend hamtestonline.com if you are thinking about taking any ham radio tests.

Anyone else upgrade lately or thinking about it?

I’m thinking of getting my extra now that you are going after yours. We can be one of the few (only?) chasers with Extra class licenses!

Now you need some fancy HF rigs!

Congrats on the upgrade. I am planning to upgrade mine to General class in the near future as well.
