  • 03/23/09 Storm Chase Recap

Convoying with Steve Miller (TX) yesterday we decided to play the middle ground in Oklahoma sticking with I40 early on and staying ahead of the dryline.  We felt our southern option in southwest OK would fire, but perhaps after dark.

Ended up getting on a storm that formed right on I40 and moved north to Kingfisher where we split up and I got this great rotating wall cloud on video.  It really tried, just never produced.  Stayed with it all the way to the other side of Stillwater!

After that decided to drop down and catch storms that had now formed in the southern target. Played around with that before calling it a night.

Ended up staying the night in Moore, OK at the Miller Bar & Suites where Steve joined me and the other Steve Miller (OK) (I know it confuses me too!) where we are just hanging out today and anticipating a chase in Central Texas tomorrow. More on that later…

My accommodations currently! Nothing like a good rest!

  • 03/23/09 Chase Forecast

Sunday ended up being a bust in the Texas Panhandle (as mostly was expected) but met up with Steve Miller (TX) and we had a nice drive around the eastern Panhandle which was a good test for me on the new TVN video streaming as well as discovered I had EVDO service the entire time!  Ended the day with an incredible dinner at the Big Texan in Amarillo!

Attention now turns to severe weather potential today and chasing…

Our forecasting this morning, which I don’t have much time to get in to as we are hitting the road now, we have initially target west central OK along I40 which gives us options to play both northern and southern targets in Oklahoma if we need to.  Despite moisture lacking a little, wind fields are incredible and I expect it to be a long day/night across Oklahoma.   Things should light up in NE and KS as well, but I’m focusing on OK for our chase.  Strong tornadoes are a definitely possiblity today, so those living in the area need to keep tuned to their local media and have their NOAA weather radios on.

I’ll be streaming live video on the new imap tracker found on TVN.  Click the LIVE link on the left side.
