  • 03/25/09 Chase Forecast

I’ll be hitting the road here shortly from Norman, OK for a fast shot down I35 to chase.  The warm front will be the big show I believe today, wherever that ends up.  Forecast models are keeping it down more around I10, I sorta feel like it will get further north.  I’m not ruling out targets of Waco or even west toward San Angelo, but the nice thing about coming from the north it will be easy to adjust as necessary.

The above graphic is the current tornado forecast graphic today. I think that tornado potential is valid, but along wherever the warm front is by mid-afternoon.  SPC is already considering an upgrade later to a moderate risk.

I’ll be streaming live video again later on TVN. We’ll see what the day brings!

  • 03/23/09 Storm Chase Recap

Convoying with Steve Miller (TX) yesterday we decided to play the middle ground in Oklahoma sticking with I40 early on and staying ahead of the dryline.  We felt our southern option in southwest OK would fire, but perhaps after dark.

Ended up getting on a storm that formed right on I40 and moved north to Kingfisher where we split up and I got this great rotating wall cloud on video.  It really tried, just never produced.  Stayed with it all the way to the other side of Stillwater!

After that decided to drop down and catch storms that had now formed in the southern target. Played around with that before calling it a night.

Ended up staying the night in Moore, OK at the Miller Bar & Suites where Steve joined me and the other Steve Miller (OK) (I know it confuses me too!) where we are just hanging out today and anticipating a chase in Central Texas tomorrow. More on that later…

My accommodations currently! Nothing like a good rest!
