Requests for the Explosion Video

I have had an overwhelming number of requests for the video that I said I would make available for free to any official Fire Departments. I have received all your emails, I just haven’t had time to respond to all of them yet, but I have read them. I will respond to all as time allows, I promise I am not ignoring them. Remember I am also in the middle of changing out chase vehicles here as well since the old one was damaged in the explosion.

I’m not expecting to have the DVD available for fire departments completed for about 3 weeks. I’ll post updates here on the blog as I have them. It will be approximately an hour long and includes some aftermath video I shot a couple days later.

Again, I am making this available for free to OFFICIAL Fire Departments only! For control purposes, I am asking you either email requests to me from your official department email, or by regular postal mail on department letterhead.

For the rest of you who asked for one, I’ll be making a different version of the DVD available for purchase after I get all the fire department folks taken care of! As this video has the potential to save many lives through training, that takes priority right now.

I just wanted to make this update since I haven’t had time to personally respond the the overwhelming number of requests. Some have been from as far away as Alaska and Canada, and as big as DFW Airport and Washington DC Fire and Rescue and New York State Fire!

Many thanks for what you are doing with your video. It will be a big help to departments who might have to respond to an incident like this.

As a chaser many years ago in your area, I suffered my share of damage to my vehicles from mother nature, but never from something like that. Stay safe.

Mr. Drummond I am the chief of the Knowles Fire Department and would love to have this video for training at my department and at our annual fire school. This video is amazing and can teach alot of us that fight these kind of fires about the danger they present. Not many of us will see this in person thank goodness but to be prepared for this in case it happens. Email me and I will get you the address to mail a copy to me. Thanks

Like Chief Singleton said, this is rare footage of an actual bleve (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion), something we have not been able to show “up close” of the dangers of this type of explosion. Please send me a copy for training purposes.

Will you be making this video available for industrial fire brigade training also? I work with training these folks and they are the ones who respond to many of the tank fires — either their own or as part of mutual aid.

If not, will look forward when I can purchase the “general” version.

I haven’t completely made my mind up yet on how I am going to handle the video for commercial firefighters (i.e. those working for oil companies etc. I’ve had some requests from some with Shell Oil for example. I’m torn on that between helping the firefighters out, and thinking the big companies are rich enough to pay for it.

Even for the “purchase” version, it will be a very nominal fee.

David — a “nominal” fee shouldn’t be a problem.

For info — many industrial firefighters volunteer for their company fire brigade and often serve as volunteer firefighters in their community. (They are something like storm chasers — some folks run away and others run toward where the action is!)

For myself — I’m a retired oil-company safety guy and do periodic fire training (at my own expense) with the same goal you have — trying to keep people from getting hurt by things they don’t fully understand. Your video will help.
