Friday, 08 February 2008 16:34

On February 5th, 2008, the most deadly tornado outbreak in over 2 and a half decades began across 4 states and killed at least 56 people (total as of this writing). This was also the most deadly outbreak in Tennessee and Kentucky since the 1974 Super Outbreak.

Total fatalities so far include 13 in Arkansas, 32 in Tennessee, 4 in Alabama and 7 in Kentucky. This may not be the final total.

So far 53 tornadoes rated as high as EF4 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale by the National Weather Service have been confirmed.

In addition to the tornadoes, there was also very high straight line winds, hail to the size of softballs, and major flooding, as well as significant freezing rain and heavy snows in the cold sector of this system.

For more in depth information, be sure to check out my blog where I am posting a number of articles on this event.
