{"id":481,"date":"2009-02-10T00:39:33","date_gmt":"2009-02-10T05:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/daviddrummond.com\/blog\/?p=481"},"modified":"2009-02-10T17:16:08","modified_gmt":"2009-02-10T22:16:08","slug":"021009-severe-weather-for-texas-oklahoma-arkansas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/daviddrummond.com\/blog\/2009\/02\/10\/021009-severe-weather-for-texas-oklahoma-arkansas\/","title":{"rendered":"02\/10\/09 Severe Weather for Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-482\" title=\"021009graphicast\" src=\"http:\/\/daviddrummond.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/021009graphicast.gif\" alt=\"021009graphicast\" width=\"455\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"http:\/\/daviddrummond.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/021009graphicast.gif 516w, http:\/\/daviddrummond.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/021009graphicast-300x179.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A powerful storm system is emerging out on to the plains that will no doubt bring severe weather for a good part of the eastern southern plains and points east.<\/p>\n<p>Unseasonably high dewpoints are ramping up across Texas in advance of this system, and there are ample dynamics to generate a good deal of severe weather.\u00a0 The Storm Predicition center has already outlooked a good portion of the area in a Slight Risk with an area centered around southeast OK in a Moderate Risk.\u00a0 This will no doubt change by tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>This of course has many storm chasers who are anxious to see some good storms doing their best to pull tornadoes out of this.\u00a0 Frankly, I am just not seeing the huge tornado potential.\u00a0 Sure, there is ample shear, but any time I see winds at 850mb with any southwest component to them this early in the year I immediately think squall line.<\/p>\n<p>Will there be tornadoes?\u00a0 Possibly.\u00a0 It&#8217;s possible that a storm or two might remain discrete long enough to produce, but even if it does it&#8217;s going to be hauling donkey.\u00a0 My gut feeling says it&#8217;s highly unlikely, and there will be a quick evoluton to a powerful squall line.<\/p>\n<p>I feel more likely the cause for severe weather on Tuesday will widespread severe wind reports\/damage, with some hail thrown in the mix.\u00a0 I expect there might be a few significant straight line wind episodes in the line that might get initially tagged with a tornado report because of damage, as often happens with strong squall lines.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my gut feeling on the setup.\u00a0 As such, considering the distance and time of year as well, I have no plans to chase right now.\u00a0 I most definitely will give it a good look over in the morning and not 100% ruling out I might see something that intices me out the door.\u00a0 But I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s likely.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there is always a chance I will bust this forecast.
